I had always admired the hairstyle of those Japanese models. They managed to look soo.. sweet with the beautiful big curls. All these years, I had always maintained a head of long sleek hair since the rebonding technology started when I was 16. Rebonding came as a blessing to me. However, after the introduction of big curls by the Japanese, I tried perming my hair. It was disastrous. I went to a hair school and got the school students to help me with the perm, it looked okay.. initially, but it slowly become very auntie looking as many of my friends commented it to be.
Well.. lesson learnt.. I avoided curly hair for a period of time.. A few years later, backside itch again.. sick of straight hair, wana try something new.. tried a new hair perm technology in Far East known as Japanese perm.. Well.. as usual.. thought it looked ok initally until comments given by friends was that the perm again.. make me look very old and auntie looking.. Dejected.. I avoided curls once again...
Curls on second attempt 2005
Fearful of the results of perm, I specifically requested with the hairdresser during a trip to Hairwaves, City Square for rebonding today. After a few conversation, the hairdresser assured me that I could try going for curls again. He added that curls are supposed to be more femine and would be a new change from my usual straight hairstyle. He encouraged me to take on curls instead and told me that with proper care and handling, I should be able to achieve my desired results. Besides, technology in hairstyling has advanced and digital perm could allow one to perm the hair without looking auntie as it focuses only on the lower section of the hair. Half fearful, half hopeful, I decided to leave it to his hands to create the magic. To make matters worse, he is only 19 years old. Will he be really able to do so? After almost 5 long hours of perm, colour and highlight, the results was not too bad. With the exception that the colours were too natural that my colour and highlight was not very obvious. Apparently, my curls does turn out better than my first and second attempt at curly hair. So far Leo and Winy commented that the curls look rather good on me and is much better than the previous perm session. Is that true? You be the judge
Anyway, I have concluded that perm hair is too much of a hassle to maintain. You need to keep adding styling cream, twisting you hair, etc for the curls to turn out nice. Otherwise, it will be limp and almost straight with some waves at the end. On the flipside, straight hair makes one looks younger and is almost maintainence free. Conclusion: I could go with curls on an occasional basis. =p
